Best Horror Short Story Collections

The best horror short story collections: the form where the genre began and where it often does its best work. Stephen King's Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, Nightmares & Dreamscapes and Full Dark, No Stars, Shirley Jackson's The Lottery and Other Stories and M. R. James's Ghost Stories of an Antiquary show how much dread can fit in a few pages.

Short stories are made for horror: one idea, one scare, no time to relax. They are also ideal for a night when you have an hour and no wish to start a novel. Read one before bed, if you dare.
